Brown University Science Library
Daylighting has proven to provide more inspiring and uplifting experiences. In addition to reducing energy costs, daylighting can reduce glare and increase comfort levels. With this in mind, my group was tasked in reimagining and providing new daylight strategies for Brown University’s drab, 8th level Science Library.
Through shade and daylight autonomy analysis we were able to propose several design interventions – light shelves, new electric lighting schemes, design reorientation, occupancy sensors and new material proposals – which increased energy efficiency, maximized the amount of natural daylight and reduced glare.
