Continuing with themes taken from Noguchi’s 26N Lamp and the Dual Artist Studios, The Providence Art Center focuses on overlapping spaces and shared zones. In this case, shared zones are all gallery and viewing spaces and independent spaces are classrooms, studios and workshop spaces.
Visitors of the Providence Art Center must go on a long (almost inconvenient) walk to reach their desired location. By doing so, they are forced to interact with students, artists, educators, and the work itself. The Providence Art Center’s architecture is reflective of inherent value systems of sharing, inclusivity and community.
